Biographical Poems

Choose a character from your novel, play, or short story and demonstrate your understanding of the character and the conflicts and circumstances of his or her life by composing a bio poem about that character. Follow this model:

The character’s name.

Two adjectives connected by ‘and’ or ‘but.’

A verb and an adverb.

A simile that shows a special quality of this character.

A metaphoric statement about the character’s actions.

A personification of the character’s surroundings.

An "If only" statement that expresses the character’s longings.

Mayelle Ewell

Young but old

Lying sadly

As ruined as a trampled rose,

Seized by the courtroom chair,

With walls and windows leering.

If only she could seize the leering liar there.
