Current Events Worksheet ~ English III ~ School year 2002/03

 

What is the meaning of this activity?            Good question.  Through this activity, students will learn:

Ø      To increase insight and reflection to print and non-print text through personal expression.

Ø      To inform an audience and explain insights into language and culture.

Ø      To define issues and argue effectively.

Ø      To critically analyze text to gain meaning, develop thematic connections, and synthesize ideas.

Ø      To interpret and evaluate representative texts to deepen understanding of United States literature.

Ø      To apply conventions of grammar and language usage.

 

  1. Read your article over carefully.  Use a highlighter to mark the most interesting sentences or the most colorful and/or most emotional words. 

 

  1. Identify your article as either an opinion/editorial column or a news report.
